The Lab at the Collegium Helveticum | Themenwoche 5-12 October 2018

Last week, the Lab participated in the Collegium Helveticum Themenwoche on ‘Algorithmen und ihre Anwendung’.

Organized in daily workshops, lectures and public events, the Themenwoche had as goal the discussion of questions, challenges and problems arising from the conception and use of algorithms in contemporary digital societies.

Raquel (PhD student at the Lab) gave a presentation on her work on crime data at the Lab in the Predictive Policing event, followed by interesting discussions about challenges, expectation and the future of Predictive Policing.

Andrea (Scientific Director at the Lab) gave a presentation on the conception and use of artificial intelligence tools in personalized healthcare to generate health-relevant predictions (e.g. in the case of resuscitation) and raise ethical questions during the Prediction of Health-Relevant Decisions and Their Ethical Dimensions workshop. Interesting discussions around predictive models, decision making for life & death followed.
